My name is David Brodsky. I have a Bachelor of Arts (4 yr program) in psychology from York University, and I've been tutoring English and math classes under the name English Tutor Toronto for 9 years. In this time, I've worked with students of every grade (1-12) as well as mature students, whose first language is English as well as those who are seeking to learn English grammar, vocabulary, and listening skills.

As a tutor, I believe that everyone's learning experience is different. Two students seeking to improve their conversational skills may differ not only in their level of English fluency (this requires adapting different materials to different literacy levels) but also in the reasons for why they are learning English. One student may want to learn to improve conversational skills that are related to their construction job, while another may wish to improve conversational skills to complete an IELTS exam, while another is doing it for personal interest, and is thus more open to different sort of conversational exercises and scenarios. All three students require conversation practice, but the materials for each student differ.

I make an effort to find materials that are engaging for students because I understand that the death of education is boredom. I strive to find materials that are fun, and appropriate both for myself and the student.

As a tutor and self-employed person, I understand the value that choice has when it comes to dealing with clients. To that end, I try to allow the students to guide the choice of materials and class structure as much as they're comfortable and as much as I'm able to. Whenever possible, I like to try and let students decide their learning materials and agree to their homework assignments (agreement here, I believe, increases homework completion rates).

I am not a particularly well-educated or intelligent person, but I do enjoy teaching and hope to grow this business with new employees in the future. I am dedicated to providing value through my classes. I hope that I can effectively teach you!
