The concept of the 10,000 hour rule is the idea that it takes 10,000 hours of practice in order to become an expert in anything. While the kind of practice a person does matters, the general idea is there: you’re not going to become good at anything without putting some work in.

A lot of students come to tutors seeking answers, and that’s fine, but what is usually lacking is an effort being made to actually learn what they want to study. You want to learn how to improve your assignment scores, well have you Googled it? You want to make sure the work you’re submitting is good enough for your teacher. Well, have you talked to your teacher? Gone to class? Googled how to do these kinds of assignments?

Once a student starts to put effort into the work they do, they start to see results, which leads to more effort and further results. Perhaps tutors are not meant to provide answers to complex questions; perhaps, they are meant to point students in a direction that they should put their efforts into in order to succeed at their goals.
